PURPOSE


The Pharmacy Technician program prepares students for employment as pharmacy technicians through hands-on training in prescription processing, medication preparation, pharmaceutical calculations, inventory management, sterile and non-sterile compounding, and pharmacy operations. Students develop the technical knowledge, professional skills, and attention to detail needed to support pharmacists, ensure medication safety, and provide quality patient care in retail, hospital, and other healthcare settings.

Learn to receive, process, prepare, package, and label prescriptions while following established pharmacy procedures and ensuring accuracy throughout the medication dispensing process.

 

Pharmaceutical Calculations
& Compounding

Develop the skills to perform pharmaceutical calculations and prepare sterile and non-sterile compounded medications while following industry standards, quality assurance procedures, and safety protocols. 

 

Pharmacy Operations
& Inventory Management

Gain hands-on experience with inventory control, medication storage, purchasing, recordkeeping, insurance processing, and pharmacy information systems used in retail and institutional pharmacy settings. 

 

Medication Safety
& Regulatory Compliance

Build a strong understanding of medication safety, infection control, pharmacy law, HIPAA, controlled substance regulations, and the ethical responsibilities of pharmacy technicians.  

Patient Communication
& Professional Practice

Develop effective communication, customer service, teamwork, and professional skills while assisting pharmacists and providing quality care to patients in a variety of healthcare settings.

 

Career Readiness
& Certification Preparation
